Abdomen Ultrasound
A scan of the liver, gallbladder, pancreas, spleen, kidneys and other organs of the abdomen.
Non-invasive diagnostic ultrasound imaging, including Colour Doppler examinations, carried out carefully in a comfortable and private setting.
An ultrasound scan uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of the inside of the body. It is non-invasive and does not use ionising radiation (X-rays).
Doppler ultrasound is a technique that measures the movement of blood within blood vessels. In Colour Doppler, that movement is shown as colour on the ultrasound image, helping the examining clinician see the direction and speed of blood flow.
Doctors may request a Doppler study as part of assessing blood flow. Whether this type of scan is suitable for you is a decision for your doctor, who will interpret the findings alongside your overall health and history.

Colour Doppler ultrasound is a type of ultrasound examination that uses sound waves to show how blood flows through blood vessels. The movement of blood is displayed as colour on the ultrasound image, which helps the examining clinician assess the direction and speed of blood flow.
Ultrasound is non-invasive and does not use ionising radiation. A water-based gel is applied to the skin and a hand-held probe is moved over the area being examined. Most people find it comfortable, although you may feel some light pressure.
