Veneers & Composite Bonding

Coverings applied to the front surface of teeth to improve gaps, shape or discolouration.

About this treatment

Veneers are thin shells bonded to the front surface of teeth. Composite bonding uses tooth-coloured resin applied directly to the tooth and shaped by the dentist.

Both can improve the appearance of chipped, uneven, gapped or discoloured teeth. Your dentist will discuss which option suits your teeth and goals.

What happens during treatment

A general overview — your dentist will explain the exact plan for your case.

  1. 1

Step 1: Your dentist discusses the look you want and checks that your teeth and gums are healthy.

  2. 2

Step 2: For bonding, the tooth surface is prepared and tooth-coloured composite is applied, shaped and hardened — usually in one visit.

  3. 3

Step 3: For veneers, a thin layer of enamel may be prepared and an impression taken so the veneers can be made.

  4. 4

Step 4: The veneers are then bonded in place and your bite is checked.

Veneers & Composite Bonding: common questions

Ask us a question

What is the difference between veneers and composite bonding?

Composite bonding is applied and shaped directly on the tooth, usually in one visit. Veneers are thin shells made to fit and then bonded on. Your dentist will explain which suits your goals.

Are veneers permanent?

Veneers can last many years but may eventually need replacing. Some tooth preparation may be needed, which cannot be reversed, so your dentist will discuss this before treatment.
