About this treatment

Braces use small brackets attached to the teeth, connected by a wire that is adjusted over time to move the teeth gradually into a better position. Metal braces use stainless-steel brackets, while ceramic braces use tooth-coloured brackets that are less noticeable.

Treatment involves regular review appointments for adjustments. Your dentist will assess your teeth and bite, explain the options and expected treatment length, and advise on caring for your teeth while wearing braces.

What happens during treatment

Step 1: Your teeth and bite are examined, and records such as X-rays, impressions and photographs are taken.

Step 2: The brackets are bonded to the teeth and connected with a wire.

Step 4: When treatment is complete, the braces are removed and a retainer is provided to hold the teeth in place.
